Since I had no formal art education, I am mainly self-taught. I only managed to execute a small number of oil-paintings (my favourite medium) over the years, working full-time in my structural engineering occupation.
In order to learn an additional, related skill, I equipped my studio for the making of picture-frames, following time-tested traditional techniques and using materials that ensure lasting quality.
I’ve always been an advocate for the use of traditional materials such as wood, leather, stone and metals like copper, brass or gold. In the making of my picture-frames, I apply this in the design of various combinations of finishes including hand-carving, gilding (in pure gold or silver leaf or other metals), natural or coloured wood and paint washes - all aimed at enhancing the object to be framed. No factory-finished frames are offered in my studio.
Every Frame Is Unique
Each one of my frames gets tagged with a brass tag reflecting a unique number linked with all the information related to the frame i.e. Client, date manufactured, moulding profile, finishes, mounting and glazing specifics. I am of the opinion that my frames are of heirloom quality and this information can be put to good use in years to come.
My Mission
I aim to produce beautiful, properly crafted custom-made picture-frames of exceptional quality to best enhance your art.
